10/30

My goal was to pass off my angulation and adaptation PE today. I did pretty well. Today we learned to classify patients. It was interesting to look at different cases and to try and put that patient into a catergory according to their periodontal health. I am worried about when I start to see real patients and I have to really come up with a classification. I hope I will understand it better by then.

10/25

Today my goal was to pass off the instrument identification PE. I was really nervous about it, like i usually am for PE's, but it wasn't bad at all. I studied really well before and I felt prepared. We learned how to do posterior scaling today. The instrument isn't as pointy but the angles are much harder. Needless to say, it was really discouraging. Apparantly thats normal. I sure hope it is!!

10/23

Today my goal for clinic was to pass of the dental screening PE. I was a little nervous and didn't feel very prepared. We went through it as a POD before taking it and I think I did pretty well. It wasn't as bad as I thought. What I am now nervous for is the PE for wednesday. It is the instrument design and classification one. I am taking my instruments home and my goal for next time will be to study them hard and to do really well on my PE!!

10/18

Today in clinic was a run through day. We got to take each other as patients and go through almost the whole appointment. At least we got to do as much as we had learned how to do. I was a little nervous doing everything because some things I hadn't done since I passed off the PE. It was a good day though and I feel like I remembered things pretty well. I even had a little bit of time to do some more scaling. I still am not quite sure what is calculus sometimes but then again we all have pretty clean teeth!

10/16

Today I went into clinic with the goal to pass off my explorer PE. I was nervous to pass off the PE because I didn't feel like I really was very good at it. We started anterior instrumentation today so we watched the video on instrumentation. It was really helpful to see it so close! I feel that it helped me pass off my explorer PE! It was kind of exciting to learn scaling. The instrument was so sharp but it was really fun to scale!

10/11

Today was another funny disclosing day! I brushed twice and flossed morning and night and my PFI went up! It wasn't perfect but it at least improved. I went to clinic with the goal to pass off my explorer PE but I passed off the probe PE instead. So my goal for monday is to pass off the explorer PE because thats the last day I can do it.

10/9

My goal for clinic today was to get there early and set up my unit so I can be ready when clinic starts. It was a pretty good clinic day. I learned that I have to be a better flosser. It was fun to use the disclosing agent and we all looked funny with blue teeth!

10/4

I went in with the goal to pass off my intra oral PE. I wasn't sure if I could do it because there are so many structures and steps to remember. I actually passed it off and I did fine. Today we were charting existing restorations and caries on our lab partners. I was surprised how difficult it can be to see the margins of a composite filling or to even see if it has a filling in the first place. I actually kind of enjoyed charting existing restorations.

10/2

Today we took probe readings on eachother. I was pretty nervous going into clinic because I had only tried probing once and it had almost been a week since we had learned. My goal was to just throw myself into it and just to do my best. It actually wasn't too bad! It went pretty well and I didn't stab my partner too much with the probe. It was great!
